Welcome!

Dear Friends, Supporters, and Voters,

Thank you for your interest in my campaign for Attorney General of Utah.  With your support, I can bring a fresh perspective and balance to the attorney general’s office, including a focus on people, not politics.

I believe the attorney general is a watchdog, protecting the public interest and ensuring the highest ethical standards throughout state government.

As attorney general, I will advocate for stronger ethics legislation. For the past nine years, I have prosecuted educators who have violated the ethical standards of their profession, preventing those who fail to meet the standards from teaching in this or any other state.  I will bring this experience to the role of attorney general to ensure public officials fulfill the ethical duties of their offices.

I will also implement a comprehensive plan for crime prevention, including steps to lower Utah’s appalling rates of sexual abuse and rape.

In these times of economic downturn, the attorney general must protect the public from predatory lending and business practices.

As legal counsel to the State Board of Education, I have experience working with diverse groups to develop long term solutions to statewide issues.  I have provided sound legal advice, such as arguing against implementing an amendment to the voucher legislation, and offered legal assistance to districts, administrators, educators, and parents.  I have also been involved in drafting policies and rules for statewide programs and advocating for and against legislation.

Before joining the State Board, I taught history at Judge Memorial High School and wrote editorials and a regular column for the Salt Lake Tribune.  As a teacher, I managed 150 teenagers per year.  As an editorial writer, I swayed public opinion on important issues.  Both of these experiences will translate well into the attorney general’s role.

Most importantly, I am the mother of three amazing children and will celebrate my 16th wedding anniversary in May.  My husband is a high school teacher and coach and he and my children continue to inspire me daily.

I believe I can win this race.  But a statewide campaign is an expensive proposition and I need your financial contribution to win.  Please consider a donation through the Act Blue link below.  Contributions of any amount are most gratefully accepted.

Sincerely,

Jean Welch Hill
